Sport and history cross path in Venice and the surrounding lagoon: in the summer the city hosts over 120 regattas, traditional Venetian rowing competitions, a one of a kind discipline that has been practiced for thousands of years along the Venetian canals.

Historical Regatta

The city’s most important rowing event, the Regata Storica, takes place on the first Sunday in September, whereas the Festa del Redentore (July 20th), a not-to-be-missed fireworks display under the stars, provides the perfect opportunity to savor the magic atmosphere offered by the many shows across the city.

Take a step back in time, and pose as a Venetian Doge enjoying a night at one of the city’s landmark theaters with a mise-en-scène in traditional costume at the Fenice, the main opera theater of the late eighteenth century.

The magical atmosphere of the 17th century awaits you in Venice’s oldest still operating theater, the Carlo Goldoni, named after one of the fathers of modern comedy, or the Malibran Theater, which opened in 1678 and rose to fame immediately thanks to the success of opera music.

Venice Film Festival

Fans of the big screen can meet Italian and international stars at the Venice Film Festival, scheduled from August 29th to September 8th at Venice Lido. It is the oldest film festival in the world, and is organized by the Venice Biennale, a cultural event that also includes the renowned International Exhibition of Contemporary Art.

Art lovers will not want to miss the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, one of the most important museums in Italy for European and American art of the twentieth century, the Pinault collection, at Palazzo Grassi, home to one of the five world’s greatest modern and contemporary art collections, and Punta della Dogana, one of the most extraordinary and scenic sites in Venice, from where you can enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the lagoon, the molo and a glimpse of St. Mark’s Square from a unique and unusual perspective.
